One of the greatest treasures in the Bible is YASHAYA's (The SAVIOUR's) teaching on prayer. The LORD's prayer in Matthew 6: 9-13, flowed from Our SAVIOUR's heart to serve our greatest need. The LORD's prayer is a guide to acceptable and effective prayer.
First of all, the LORD's prayer, by comparison to other prayers, is short. However, of the recorded prayers of YASHAYA, The LORD'S Prayer is the second longest of them all. Remember, YASHAYA instructed his disciples not to use "vain repetition, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking (Matthew 6:7). There is no need to be long- winded in prayer "for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him" (Matthew 6:8).
In The LORD's prayer, YASHAYA teaches us how to pray, and for what to pray.
GOD Is Father: "Our Father which art in Heaven"
GOD's Name (and Character) Is Holy: "Hallowed be thy name."
GOD's Will Is Supreme: "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."
GOD Is Our Daily Provider: "Give us this day our daily bread."
GOD's Forgiveness Must Be Extended to Others: And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
GOD's Guidance Is Righteous and Victorious: "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
Consider what is learned from YASHAYA's great prayer.
The LORD's prayer is an indispensable guide for saints and sinners alike.
